The strange, prehistoric-looking leaves cast a spell on many and lead to a tireless pursuit of the rarest fronds. The precursor to the modern terrarium was invented in Britain during the craze, dubbed the Wardian case, after its creator. These cases protected the delicate ferns from air pollution and created a beautiful little greenhouse for them to thrive in.
